LEGO® artist Warren Elsmore is based in Edinburgh but his studio isn’t open to the public – until now! Join him and his team ‘backstage’, meet the artists, see fantastic LEGO® sculptures and marvel at an amazing LEGO® diorama that they build live throughout the whole month of August!
After fifteen years in a successful IT career, in 2012 Warren moved to working full-time with LEGO® bricks, helping businesses realise their own dreams in plastic. His first book, Brick City, was released in 21 languages to critical acclaim and has been followed by a catalogue of books and commissions recreating famous places, objects and events in LEGO®. Exhibitions of Warren’s models tour museums and galleries throughout Europe, entertaining hundreds of thousands of people.
Brick Wonders, another of Warren’s elaborate creations, visited Riddle’s Court as part of Edinburgh’s Science Festival in 2014. So it is with much delight that after his very busy schedule and the two year restoration of the 1590s merchant’s house that we welcome him back for what should be an exciting build.
A fabulous exhibition featuring models of a cityscape will evolve right before your eyes. Many city attractions associated to Patrick Geddes will feature within. Geddes, who restored Riddle’s Court as one of the city’s first halls of residence in the late 19th century, was a man of diverse interests and skills whose concern for places in which people lived and worked led to pioneering work in education, conservation, town planning and social science. Examples of his work in Edinburgh include using the Camera Obscura to get a broader perspective of the city, designing Edinburgh Zoo and creating Ramsay Gardens.
Brick City – The backstage tour will run from 4th to the 25th of August between 10am and 6pm with entry every 15 minutes for a 60 minute tour. Tickets are £6 each. For those visitors not LEGO® fanatics why not kick back and enjoy a relaxing cuppa at the onsite café!
